After studying education and working as a Jewish educator, Sonia set out to travel the Amazon and other unique Brazilian villages, exploring alternative learning communities and contemplating her role in the world. During her adventures through the jungle, she went from feeling a painful clash between her proud Jewish identity and her proud feminist identity, to founding a community where these identities connect and uplift each other.

Listen to her story of finding inspiration in the most unexpected places and discovering clarity through spiritual experiences. It's also the origin story of Kehilah: an online community bringing Jewish Brazilian women and non-binary persons together from all over the world to learn about, discuss, and celebrate their identities. And it’s the origin story of an entirely new Jewish movement. Their recorded meeting notes have become the very first collection on record of Jewish wisdom on feminism written by Brazilian Jews and in Portuguese.
Sonia also explains the nature of Kehilah gatherings, which center on freedom and learning. They channel essential educational philosophies in innovative ways that create a unique learning environment that can inspire all types of educators.
Now 3 years later, she never expected the community to become so long lasting, far reaching, and impactful across the Brazilian Jewish world.
